Just a short drive from Wildflower Ranch, Gainesville offers a completely different side of North Florida. Home to the University of Florida, Gainesville combines college-town energy with museums, art, local restaurants, parks, live music, shopping, and plenty of opportunities to get outdoors.
Whether you're visiting for a University of Florida event, looking for something to do on a rainy afternoon, planning a family outing, or simply want to explore the city while you're staying at the ranch, Gainesville makes an easy day trip.
The University of Florida is one of Gainesville's defining features—and for many visitors, the reason for the trip.
The UF campus offers beautiful grounds, museums, athletic venues, cultural events, and the unmistakable energy of a major college town.
If you're visiting for a Gators game, graduation, campus visit, orientation, family weekend, or another university event, staying outside the city can give you a quieter place to return to after a busy day in Gainesville.
Planning a UF visit? Check the university's current event and visitor information before your trip.

The Harn Museum of Art offers free admission and features collections spanning African, Asian, modern and contemporary art, and photography. Exhibitions change regularly, making it worth checking what's on view during your visit.
It's an especially good choice when you want something interesting to do that doesn't depend on the weather.

The Florida Museum of Natural History is Florida's official state museum of natural history and is located on the UF campus.
Important: The museum's public exhibits building, including the famous Butterfly Rainforest, is currently closed for a major expansion project. The museum currently anticipates reopening in 2026, so check its website for the latest reopening information before planning your visit.
Once reopened, it will again be one of Gainesville's standout attractions.
